Join Karate

MASAMI TSURUOKA, father of Karate in Canada, was born in Cumberland, B.C. In 1945 he travelled to Japan to begin his studies in the martial arts. Starting with Judo, he attained the rank of 1st degree Black Belt.

He returned to Canada after studying Karate for ten years and opened this country's first Karate dojo (school) in 1959. The very first Karate tournament to be held in North America was initiated by O Sensei Tsuruoka. He is also responsibe for organizing the National Karate Association which is the governing body of Karate in Canada, representing the country in world tournaments and matters relating to World Karate Organizations.

O Sensei Tsuruoka currently holds a 9th degree Black Belt in Karate.

Longlac Tsuruoka Karate

On behalf of the Longlac Tsuruoka Karate Club, we wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Longlac Tsuruoka Karate. Andre Courtemanche(chief instructor) in the Longlac area, was born in Saint Martin, Beauce Quebec in 1949.

This club was open 20 years ago with Masami Tsuruoka autorization and we are still growing under his Spiritual Guidance and Wisdom. Andre is the chief instructor his wife, Lise Courtemanche is the club's secretary.

Curently the club is 40 Plus and growing for a town of 2500.
